MUMBAI, APRIL 2: Indian skipper Mohammed Azharuddin has been ruled out of the tri-series one-day cricket final against arch-rivals Pakistan at Bangalore on April four.

The secretary of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Jayawant Lele, said today that Azhar, who had pulled out of the last two league matches against Sri Lanka at Pune and Pakistan at Mohali due to shoulder injury, is still to recover completely.

“I spoke to Azhar in Hyderabad today and he told me his shoulder still hurts and needed three more days rest,” he added.

“However, he has confirmed his availability to lead the side in the Sharjah tourney from April seven involving India, Pakistan and England for which the team will be announced on Sunday at Bangalore. In his absence Ajay Jadeja will lead the side in the final,” Lele said.

The selectors have also brought back medium-pacer Javagal Srinath, leg-spinner Anil Kumble, opening batsman S Ramesh, wicket-keeper Nayan Mongia in place of Laxmi Ratan Shukla, Virender Sehwag, Vinod Kambli and Syed Saba Karim for the finals.
