A fine move completed by Olivier Kapo took AJ Auxerre back to the top of the French First Division after Paris St Germain had claimed the honour for just a few hours on Saturday after defeating Olympique Marseille.

Despite the confidence gained from their shock 2-1 win at Arsenal in the Champions League on Tuesday, Auxerre had to wait until the 66th minute to wrap up the game 1-0, in the process sending Stade Rennes back to the bottom of the table. Auxerre have 24 points from 12 matches. Paris St Germain are one point adrift while Nice are third on 22 after a goalless home draw against RC Lens. Nice hardened by Champions League experience they managed to salvage a goalless draw.
