MELBOURNE, Aug 25: Australia overhauled their Test and limited overs selection policy today after accepting the need to create a specialist one-day side for cricket’s World Cup in 1999.
Australian Cricket Board (ACB) Chairman Denis Rogers said the change reflected the growing disparity between the two forms of cricket in terms of tactics and the skills required.
“The Australian national selectors will now be directed that Test and one-day matches are entirely separate games and that the panel is to pick the best team to win each match,” Rogers said in a statement.
