NEW DELHI, February 16: Australian University swamped a hapless Faculty of Commerce, Maharaja Siyajirao University (Baroda) 14-1 to top Pool IV in the Nehru-Sail Champion Colleges hockey tournament at the Shivaji Stadium here today.Earlier, in an inconsequential pool IV encounter, American College, Madurai got the better of SGRP College, Jaunpur 3-1. J Raghu Shankar, Christopher and Niray Arun scored for Madurai, while Rajendra Prasad scored for the losers. The Madurai team finished third with three points in their pool behind the Aussies and Jamia Milia (Delhi), and are out of the reckoning for a quarter-final berth.The Baroda boys, who were outclassed in every department of the game, stunned the Aussies in the seventh minute. Milind Narwekar latched on to a long clearance, and with the Australian defenders out of position, managed to shoot past the Australian goal-keeper, Lannon Harley.Stunned by the goal, the Australians went on the rampage to register their biggest win in the tournamentyet.Phil Forosyenko scored four goals, James Wright and Daniole Brenna three, while Stephen O' Connor, Oliver Close, Mathew Lobsey and Greg Drake got a goal each for the winners.
