GUWAHATI, Jan 28: Timely detection by police foiled an attempt by miscreants to blow up an oil pipeline in upper Assam's Golaghat district on Wednesday night.Official reports reaching here said the village defence party informed about the presence of some miscreants near the pipeline under Kamargaon police station.As the police reached the spot, the miscreants fled undercover of darkness after managing to dig a hole of 10 feet near the Oil India pipeline to plant a bomb, reports said. The miscreants are yet to be identified.Observing a "general strike" and a boycott call given by the six militants of the region, the ULFA on midnight last night blasted a portion of Oil India pipeline between Duliajan and Digboi in upper Assam's Tinsukia district which carries crude oil Digboi refinery.
