Renu plays with her little son Kunal at Poona Hospital’s Ward S. Only, Renu Srinivasan, who is from Ahmedabad, doesn’t recognise him. Not even her husband Kartik and mother, both of whom look at her helplessly.

From the time Renu was reported missing on August 20 till Monday, Kartik has been running from pillar to post. On Tuesday, the family finally got to meet her after getting a call from Poona Hospital here.

When Kartik reached Pune this morning, she could not remember her name, her whereabouts, family and why she was here. All that she remembered when she walked into Sancheti Hospital was that she had a funny feeling in her head and was directed to Poona Hospital for an examination, says neurosurgeon Pradeep Bafna.

Poona Hospital managed to trace her family through the lone ATM withdrawal slip that she was carrying.

According to her family, Renu has been employed with Mahindra Holiday Resort in Ahmedabad for a month, while her husband Kartik works at Cargomar, a private firm in Mumbai. It’s yet unclear why she left home for Pune on August 20.

Her ECG normal and brain scan clear, Bafna says, ‘‘It is a rare case of amnesia.’’
