FAISALABAD, DECEMBER 3: The ever dependable Mike Atherton’s cool head helped England to a draw in the second Test against Pakistan on Sunday. Pakistan had the scent of victory in their nostrils when they took three wickets in six overs in the afternoon session to leave England rocking on 57 for three in pursuit of a target of 244.

Two more wickets fell in quick succession soon after the 100 had been raised but Atherton, who scored an unbeaten 65 off 178 balls, and Craig White steered England to 125 for five when the match was called off half an hour early.

Abdur Razzaq, who completed his maiden Test century before Pakistan declared their second innings on 269 for three late in the morning session, won the man-of-the-match award.
