With five days to go for the Lucknow University convocation, a no-holds-barred tussle is on for the Chancellor’s Gold Medal this year. And it doesn’t just involve students but their fathers, working in the university.

Pooja Pandey and Aishwarya Singh had been nominated by their respective departments for the coveted medal. But today, a third student, Anshula Pandey of the Statistics Department, laid claim to the medal on grounds that she had done better than any other student in the university and that the seven medals she would be winning on Convocation Day were proof of this.

Incidentally, all the three contenders have fathers teaching in the university, two of them in the same departments. Pooja’s father R.N. Pandey is the Head of Department, Political Science, and the Head of Department recommends names for the Chancellor’s Gold Medal.

Aishwarya’s father, Prof Anil Singh of the Chemistry Department, has gone one step further and called the contest not Pooja vs Aishwarya but the Administration vs Aishwarya. Anshula completed her post-graduation in Statistics from LU and has joined as an ad hoc lecturer at Mahila PG College. She says she didn’t raise the matter till now as she did not know anything about the presentation of the medal.
