New Zealand’s dashing opening batsman Nathan Astle will miss the sixth one-day international match against India because of a knee injury.

Astle today returned to his hometown Christchurch with ‘patella tendinosis’ in his left knee. The batsman had suffered the same injury during New Zealand’s tour of Pakistan last year.

The extent of the injury could be known only after an ultrasound, said team manager Jeff Crowe. The player, he said, would undergo the test late this evening.

Lou Vincent, who sit out in the last two matches, will replace Astle in the 12-man team for the sixth and penultimate match of the series here on Saturday.
