India has called on the international community to provide assistance to cyclone-affected Myanmar expeditiously in true humanitarian spirit and keep the process “apolitical”.

New Delhi is in the process of sending in more relief material, and another Indian aircraft will reach Yangon early next week, the Ministry of External Affairs said on Sunday.

Minister of State, Commerce, Jairam Ramesh, also conveyed this to 45 countries and several international agencies at the ASEAN-UN International Pledging Conference being held in Yangon.

In the aftermath of the cyclone in Myanmar early this month, India had rushed relief and medical supplies to the country. Two Indian Navy ships and six Indian aircraft have so far landed with relief material.

Besides, India has also sent two medical teams, comprising 47 personnel, which are currently stationed in Pyapon and Bogale towns in disaster areas. They are treating more than 1,500 patients a day on an average and their work has been greatly appreciated, the MEA said in its official statment.
