Assembly polls to be free and fair: Vohra

The Jammu and Kashmir Government once again reiterated that it was committed to ensuring free and fair elections to the 87-member state Assembly elections beginning November 17.

“The state administration is committed to ensuring free and fair Assembly elections and creating a conducive atmosphere for productive electioneering,” JK Governor N N Vohra said while addressing district officers of Shopian district in south Kashmir.

The district officials headed by the District Development Commissioner of Shopian, M R Thakur told the Governor that all necessary arrangements have been made by the administration for smooth and transparent elections in the district.

Thakur said 175 polling stations would be set up for 1,39,475 electorate of the two constituencies of Shopian and Wachi which goes to the polls in the fourth phase along with nine other assembly segments of the state on December 7.

Shopian constituency which has an electorate of 71,087 will have 91 polling stations, while Wachi constituency which has only 68,388 voters will have 84 polling stations. As many as 175 booth level officers and 12 supervisors are being deployed for fair conduct of the polls, Thakur informed.
