NASHIK, SEPT 26: A group of tribal students from the Government Ashram School at Karanjul in Surgana tehsil organised a morcha to the office of the Tribal Project Officer in Kalwan to demand for more teachers. According to a senior official at the Tribal Development Commissionerate, 19 students from Class II of the primary Ashram School alongwith their parents had organised a morcha to the office of the tribal project officer, Kalwan, yesterday. The Ashram School had a sanctioned strength of five teachers, but only two teachers were available for the last three months. A month ago, the students had informed the tribal officials regarding the state of affairs. The agitators submitted a memorandum signed by 19 students, stating that they would not leave the office unless their grievances were redressed. The project officer however arranged to post three teachers at the Ashram School. It may be recalled that 23 students of Class V to Class VII of the Government Ashram School at Raite, had trekked 66 km to the Tribal Development Commissionerate in Nashik on February 17, 1998, to redress their grievances, which included bad food, lack of amenities and inadequate number of teachers. Their protest had helped them get better food and more teachers.
