
Mumbai, Oct 26: Eighth seeded Arthi Venkatraman of India came from behind to beat compatriot Nona Wagh on her way to pre-quarterfinals of the Bridgestone ITF women’s tennis circuit at Yeshwant Club here today.
Seventh seeded Anna Nefedova of Russia and sixth seeded Indian Archana Venkatraman, however, had easy matches while moving into the round of 16.
Arthi had to struggle before beating Nona 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 6-1 in a match that lasted for two hours, 35 minutes.
Nefedova defeated Trishna Williams (Ind) 6-1, 6-3, while Archana lost just one game against another Indian Niyati Shetty 6-0, 6-1.
In two other matches involving Indians, Nandini Perumal overcame the challenge of Jothika Choksi 6-4, 3-6, 7-5, while local lass Aditi Karanjkar played overpowered Stutt Smit 6-4, 3-6, 6-4 in two hours and 10 minutes.
