The Army has ordered a court of inquiry into the August 17 shooting incident outside a Rashtriya Rifles camp in north Kashmir in which a BSF deputy commandant was killed in unexplained circumstances.

Satish Kumar, leading a BSF company with seven truckload of supplies for election duty in Handwara, fell to bullets outside the Langet R/R camp. Since it was not clear who had opened fire, different versions did the rounds.

BSF Director General Ajay Raj Sharma has now told The Indian Express that the Army has ordered a court of inquiry into the incident.

Satish Kumar set out from Srinagar around 6.30 pm, rather late for a RoP (road opening party) to expect security cover. Two hours later, he lay dead outside the Langet camp. The Army probe will seek to establish the circumstances leading to the death of the BSF officer.
