THIRUVANANTHAPURAM, Aug 25: The ashes of Brigadier T D Sree Visakhan, who was shot dead by suspected United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) militants in Guwahati on August 8, were brought here this morning. While a contingent of Kerala Police gave a salute, no serving Army official was present to receive the ashes .The ashes were brought from Madras by Brigadier Visakhan's widow Ramani, daughters Aswathy and Archana, and son-in-law Padmakumar. Senior officials of the Government, led by Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister C Ramachandran, Additional State Protocol Officer V Sukumaran Nair and the Sainik Welfare director, were present .Army sources, when contacted, said that the funeral at Shillong was performed with full military honours. There was no official information about the ashes being brought to the city. Besides, it was the Army which had collected the ashes and helped Visakhan's family members bring it here, they added.Recalling the turn of events, family sources said that Brigadier Vishakhan had gone to Siliguri from Shillong on an official trip. On his return to Guwahati he had taken his daughter to a dental clinic where the assailants shot Vishakhan at point-blank range.
