The Army is taking the battle right into the enemy camp. The Corps of Signals and engineers along with AIR have set up a radio relay station in the high hills of Bhaderwah in J-K’s Doda to counter Pakistani propaganda.
Bhaderwah was chosen for its ‘‘strategic location’’ in beaming signals both across the LoC and to the affected residents. The Bhaderwah relay station, seen as a pilot project, is the first such in the border region.
‘‘Its success will result in several other stations being set up along the border belt to counter Pakistani propaganda and present the real picture,’’ Ministry of Defence sources said.
Chaman Lal Gupta, Minister of State for Defence, said: ‘‘Though we had a relay station in Bhaderwah, it was non-functional because of terrorist activities. The security forces had occupied the premises and converted it into their residential barracks. Now, I-B minister Sushma Swaraj has taken the initiative, along with me, to start the relay station.’’
The Army has an elaborate programme chalked out for the radio station. They will read out names of terrorists killed, their addresses in Pakistan, and the circumstances in which they were killed. ‘‘The message we want to convey is that the life of a terrorist lasts less than six months. The station will air interviews of surrendered terrorists and send messages from them to their families in Pakistan,’’ sources said.
