DEVLALI, DEC 10: A unique book bringing alive the history of artillery in the country Vintage Guns in Indiawas released by army Chief General S Padmanabhan here to commemorate tenth re-Union of the gunners.

The book authored by Colonel S K Chaterjee was described by General Padmanabhan as a masterpiece, which should serve as a reference book for the gunners. “Extensive research has gone into it,” he said on Friday at the tenth re-union of the artillery being held at the school of artillery at Devlali and the adjoining artillery centre at Nashik Road Camp here.

“The books attempts to capture the glory of the vintage Indian canons,” Col Chatterjee said. Apart from tracing the growth of artillery in the country, the book also deals with Dutch, British, French, Portuguese guns and multi-barrel guns. Guns used by various dynasties has also been included in the book.

General Padmanabhan, who is also the Senior Colonel commandant of artillery, also released a book titled History of Devlali” authored by Brigadier (retd) P N Jaywant, which traces the unique history of Devlali. The author has done extensive research in this field and have often referred to the archives in Mumbai and New Delhi.
