The newest aviation wing of the armed forces — the Army Aviation Corps — will hold its first ever reunion next week at the Combat Army Aviation Training School in Nashik. Over 1,000 veterans, serving aviators and aeronautical engineers of the Corps are expected to turn up at the historic event that will also mark the 22nd raising day anniversary of the aviation wing.

The elite arm, manned, maintained and flown by selected personnel of the Indian Army, has increasingly taken part in close support flying missions in recent years. Starting with just four light weight unarmed aircraft, the AAC now consists over 12 helicopter squadrons. It is also set to induct the armed version of the indigenous Advanced Light Helicopter.

The Governor of Punjab, SF Rodrigues, a veteran aviator, will preside over the function. The Army Aviation memorial foundation stone would also be laid by Lt Gen K S Jamwal, General Officer Commanding in Chief Eastern Command, who is also the Colonel Commandant of Army Aviation Corps.
