Finally, the Indian Open is set to see some of its old glory back. Once the premier golf tourney of the country, it had fallen on bad times because of lack of top class participation.
Today, the organisers received a big boost when India’s only US PGA player Arjun Atwal confirmed his participation for this year’s meet. The $ 300,000 meet is to be played over The Delhi Golf Club course from October 27 to 30.
This will be Atwal’s first tournament in India since enjoying his breakthrough season on the US tour. Atwal has been able to retain his tour card for the next season easily.
Atwal won the Indian open in Kolkata in 1999 to claim his maiden victory on the Asian Tour. “I still feel that was the most important win of my career. I had come close to winning on a number of occasions, but that was the first and gave me the confidence to realise I could win at that level. So to be returning to play in the event this year, especially after the year I had in the states is special,” Atwal was quoted as saying.
