The banking sector saw a host of appointments on Monday. While Punjab National Bank (PNB), United Bank of India, Oriental Bank of Commerce (OBC) got CMDs on Monday, a number of other PSU banks — Andhra Bank, Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) and Indian Bank — are expected to get new chiefs very soon.While IOB’s CMD S.C. Gupta took over as chairman of PNB, K.N. Prithviraj assumed office as CMD of OBC. Prithviraj was earlier executive director of Kolkata-based United Bank of India. Prithviraj took over in OBC from B.D. Narang while Gupta took over in PNB from S.S. Kohli. Both Gupta and Prithviraj will hold office for the next two years.PNB is slated to see a reshuffle of its top brass as its executive director K.C. Chakraborty is tipped to become chairman of Indian Bank. The appointment is yet to be cleared, sources said.Meanwhile, P.K. Gupta, CMD of National Housing Bank (NHB) was also given additional charge as CMD of United Bank of India (UBI) on Monday.Apart from these appointments notified on Monday, a series of appointments are expected to materalise this week. While the present CMD of Andhra Bank T.S. Narayanswamy is tipped to take over as the CMD of Indian Overseas Bank, the present executive director of Bank of Baroda K. Ramakrishnan is the front runner for the post of CMD of Andhra Bank.Banking sources said the appointments of Chakraborty, Narayanswamy and Ramakrishnan are expected to be notified by the end of the week.
