Anti-tank gun found in Kupwara forest

The Army claimed to have seized a recoilless anti-tank gun, a high-calibre weapon used by the Pakistani Army, from Hafrudu forests in Kupwara district.

The weapon, the Army claimed was brought from PoK in pieces and later assembled in the forest. Sources said the high-tech gadget was meant to target Army convoys and Casper, the Army’s specially designed vehicle, which is used in all anti-insurgency operations in Kashmir.

Defence spokesperson A K Mathur said the weapon was part of a huge cache of arms and ammunition that was recovered from the forest. “On specific information, an assault team of 31 Rashtriya Rifles carried out a search operation in dense Hafrudu forests and after a thorough search, found the 82 mm smooth bore breech-loaded, tripod-mounted, recoilless anti-tank gun. It is of Chinese make,” he said.

Mathur said in terms of lethality, this is the most powerful weapon seized by the Army in Kashmir till now.
