BHUBANESWAR, APRIL 24: Yuva Kalinga's demonstration on Friday demanding resignation of Chief Minister Giridhar Gamang on the voting in the Lok Sabha turned violent with police resorting to lathicharge on the agitationists in front of the state secretariat here.Over 30 activists were injured. Seven of them with bleeding injuries were admitted to Capital Hospital. Over 500 activists including BJD MLAs Amar Satpathy, Prabhat Tripathy and Debi Mishra and president of the Yuva Kalinga Pradip Maharathi were arrested by police.The activists had initially planned to take out a procession and submit a memorandum to the Governor at Raj Bhavan demanding dismissal of the Chief Minister for participating in the motion confidence in the Lok Sabha and voting against the AB Vajpayee government.The procession which started from the Yuva Kalinga headquarters, changed course and proceeded towards the secretariat defying prohibitory orders. The demonstrators burnt an effigy of the Chief Minister and held a protestmeeting in front of the secretariat. Trouble started when the activists tried to storm into secretariat. There was a scuffle with the police when the activists threw the effigy in the air. Demonstrators ran helter-skelter when police lathicharged them.
