CHANDIGARH, Nov 1: An anti-cracker awareness rally was organised in Sector 17 Plaza with private practitioners of the city urging people against bursting crackers to avoid "suffering" burn injuries.Organised by the National Integrated Medical Association, as many as 50 doctors got together to discuss the adverse repercussions during Diwali. According to Dr T. Aggarwal, president of the association: "Fireworks can cause burns, permanent disabilities, different types of allergies such as asthma, burning of eyes, loss of eyesight, skin diseases. We want people to shun use of crackers to make this happy occasion safe."According to NIMA secretary D.V. Yadav, "Bursting of crackers leads to environment pollution and loss of crores of rupees, which can be put to constructive use. There is also abuse of child labour in manufacturing of crackers."
