DEHRA DUN, FEBRUARY 7: Poachers have struck once again in Corbett National Park, killing another elephant. Last month they had killed two elephants in the reserve and hacked off their tusks. The Uttaranchal government has ordered an inquiry into thekillings.

According to reports received here from Ramnagar, the carcass of an elephant without the trunk and tusk has been found near Laldang in Dhilla range of the park. The killing has again exposed the hollow claims of the park authorities that poachers faced a crackdown.

According to Uttaranchal officials, an elephant was found dead in Bijrani range of the park on December 27 last year. The trunk and the tusk had been cut off. In the second incident, another elephant was found dead in the Jirna range in Kalluwala Nagal forest near Bijnore.
