CHENNAI, JAN 7: Annamalai University here today launched a full fledged course in e-commerce through distance education mode in 14 centres in Southern India and Delhi, keeping in view the current global demand for persons with latest information technology exposure.

Announcing this at a press conference, the University’s Vice Chancellor P V Vaidyanathan said the `Certificate’ course, perhaps the first of its kind in the country, would be in collaboration with HMH International Education Consultants, Singapore.

The university had decided to commence the course in view of the success of a similar a course launched by it last year in Singapore, which had attracted about 200 students, mostly Indians or Singapore nationals of Indian Origin, he said.

Stating that the fee for the four-month long course had been structured to suit the pocket of the middle income group, he said the industry oriented programmes were designed to compete with those offered by other countries.

Vaidyanathan said the courses would be recognised by Bar State University, Chicago, John Hopkins University, Washington and National University Singapore under Memoranda of Understanding signed between the Annamalai University and these universities.

He said the modules for study would include web design for E-com, script and web server programming, java programming and store front and B2C system programming. The course would include Personal Contact Programmes covering about 220 hours.
