MUMBAI, March 9: Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate K H Holambe-Patil of the Girgaum court today framed charges against social worker Anna Hazare in the Rs one crore defamation case filed against him by Social Welfare Minister Babanrao Gholap.The charges have been framed against Hazare under sections 500 and 114 of Indian Penal Code. The suit had been filed following allegations of corruption levelled by Hazare against Gholap in an interview to a Mumbai daily.When Gholap entered the witness box, the magistrate asked him whether he wanted to compromise, to which the minister replied he would do so only when Hazare apologised in open court. Hazare then told the court he wouldn't compromise, because he had the material to substantiate his allegations. The hearing has been adjourned to April 13, 1998.
