The Crime Branch of the J-K police have set up a special team to probe allegations against former Additional Advocate General Anil Sethi that he had accepted a bribe of Rs 5 lakh to influence a case in the Rural Electrification scam.
The Crime Branch, on the direction of the DGP, registered a case against Anil, son of JK Accountability Commission Chairman, which has been looking into the scam.
The special team, headed by SSP, Crime, Aziz Khan, will investigate into all aspects of the case, sources said. The Crime Branch has sought a copy of the CD submitted to the court along with the PIL filed by one Musthtaq Ahmad Gania against Anil. The CD allegedly shows Anil accepting money to influence the case. Khan said the Crime Branch had submitted an application to the court seeking a copy of the CD. ‘‘Our team will watch the CD and also go through the contents of the PIL,’’ he said.
Khan said the CD would also be sent to Hyderabad for forensic tests. ‘‘We have registered a case against Anil Sethi. But after getting hold of the CD, the investigation will move forward,’’ he said. Khan, however, said the Crime Branch will not arrest Anil.
‘‘We will first probe…Arresting him will be considered only after getting any evidence against him.’’
