NAGPUR, NOV 12: Maharashtra Youth Congress president Anees Ahmed on Tuesday asked Chief Minister Manohar Joshi to clarify allegations that Bharatiya Janata Party legislator Kirit Somaiyya had sought two per cent commission from Kotak Mahindra for sanctioning two power units of 210 MW each at Khaparkheda near Nagpur.

Addressing a press conference here, he referred to a news item carried by a Mumbai eveninger and said Somaiyya had reportedly demanded Rs 13 crore from Kotak Mahindra for setting up a Rs 650-crore power project at Khaparkheda. As a result, the company had shelved its plans for the project, he alleged.

He said that when the Chief Minister sought a clarification from Somaiyya, the BJP legislator had said he had made the demand at the instance of Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde, who holds the Energy portfolio.

“Since it is a serious allegation, the BJP and its senior leader Gopinath Munde, as well as the Maharashtra Chief Minister should make a statement on it immediately,”he demanded. With Mahindra refusing to set up the power plant, the Maharashtra Government was forced to undertake the project through the MSEB.

The leader also strongly criticised the government for not clearing the way for a mini-Secretariat at Nagpur, the second capital of Maharashtra. The CM had announced that the principal secretary, Arun Bongirwar, would discharge his duties from Nagpur to solve the region’s problems. However, he had visited the city not more thrice Ahmed alleged.
