A suspected Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) militant died when an improvised explosive device (IED) he was carrying on a bicycle exploded accidentally in the downtown area of the city, officials said here. Seven civilians were also injured, two of them critically, in the explosion outside a hospital at Rainawari around 9.10 a.m., SSP Syed Javed Mujtaba Gilani said.
The deceased, identified as Tariq Ahmed Nazar, was paddling a bicycle fitted with a IED when it suddenly exploded blowing him into pieces, he said.
His parents said he was missing since yesterday, Gilani said, adding Nazar’s absence from home indicates he might be directly involved in militant activities. Nazar, an unemployed medical assistant, was identified by his family members with the help of his clothes, officials said, adding investigations into the case were still continuing.
Meanwhile, one person was injured and another abducted in separate incidents, while security forces apprehended a militant along with RDX in Kashmir valley since last night, a police spokesman said today.
