BJP president M. Venkaiah Naidu today expressed the party’s displeasure at BJP Uttar Pradesh chief Vinay Katiyar’s remarks against Congress president Sonia Gandhi.

‘‘We have always been against personal attacks on Opposition leaders. We are advising all our leaders not to make such remarks,’’ he said. Katiyar had made references to the ‘‘destruction of the country by a foreign woman’’ in his speech at a public meeting at Lakhimpur-Kheri. The comment also drew strong protests from Opposition parties.

Naidu, however, rejected the demand by Congress and other parties for an apology from PM Vajpayee.
