CHANDIGARH, Jan 29: The work of painting all the buildings white in Anandpur Sahib on the occasion of tercentenary celebrations of the Khalsa Panth would begin from January 31, according to Avtar Singh Hit, president of Delhi unit of Shiromani Akali Dal.A high powered committee headed by Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal had in its meeting early this month entrusted the task of painting all the concrete structures white, to the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (DSGPC). The meeting was attended by almost all the SGPC members, MLAs, ministers and SGPC Chief G.S.Tohra.Hit disclosed that a leading paints company ICI had agreed to provide the special paint named as ``Anandpur Sahib white Bride Paint'' worth Rs 10 lakh free of cost. Additional quantities of the paint required to complete the work which includes villages adjoining the birth place of Khalsa, Anandpur Sahib, would be provided at a 20 per cent rebate.A deputation of the DSGPC yesterday visited the township and met senior district officers and municipal authorities to finalise the historical event.Hit said that the DSGPC president Jaswant Singh Sethi would launch the whitening campaign on January 31.Separate ``kar seva'' teams had been constituted to supervise the work in different localities. Sufficient number of skilled workmen had been engaged to undertake the gigantic work, Hit said.To a question the president of the Delhi unit of the SAD said that their were no differences over the amount to be spent for the purpose nor was their any dearth of money with the panth.
