Armstrong came up with a commanding performance in the mountains, his strong point, to recapture the overall lead. Dane Michael Rasmussen finished third to move second overall- 37 seconds behind Armstrong.

Next Stage
Another attacking day can be expected. With the long Madeleine climb starting just another under 30 km into the days, early attacks cannot be ruled out. Shorter stage shall mean high speeds.
