Former Test batsman Praveen Amre will coach the India ‘A’ side that will be touring Australia to participate in the Emerging Players Tournament starting from July 14.

“Amre will be the coach for the India ‘A’ team to Australia,” Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Niranjan Shah told The Indian Express on Tuesday. “He has the experience as he has been working with the Mumbai side and also with the National Cricket Academy for many years.”

Not surprised by the decision, Amre said that his appointment as batting coach with the India ‘A’ side at the NCA had been a hint of things to come. “That appointment led me to believe they have something in mind for me,” Amre said. “It’s going to be a tough tour but the month-long camp will help us prepare well.” The Parthiv Patel-led squad is scheduled to leave for Australia on July 11. They are in the same group as New Zealand, South Africa and hosts Australia. The tournament’s final is scheduled for July 27.
