MUMBAI, Jan 9: Praveen Amre and southpaw Jatin Paranjape shared the opening day’s honours of the Times Shield A Division semi-finals that got under way today.

While Amre, who was unlucky to miss a century by one run, guided Air-India to some respectability against Sun-Grace Mafatlal at the MiG ground, Bandra, Paranjape steered Elf Lubricants out of trouble and returned unbeaten on 70 (13×4) at the Elf-Vengsarkar Academy ground, Oval Maidan.

Electing to bat, Air-India suffered early losses with the dismissal of openers Sameer Dighe (11) and Piyush Soneji (10). However, Amre and Tariq-ur Rehman (19: 132b), stonewalled the opposition with a 82-run association.
