No huge posters or lifesize cut-outs. Durai Gounder, who claims to be an AIADMK member, has chosen to be different in demonstrating his loyalty and admiration for Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa. He is planning to construct a temple for her on the foothills of Kundrathur.
Aadi Sakthi Annai Thiru Koil will have a four-feet-tall statue of Jayalalithaa and poojas including abhishekams will be performed, says Durai Gounder, a K.K. Nagar-based businessman. ‘‘Jayalalithaa is a god after all. In difficult times, she has proved to be an iron lady, tough and majestic. At the same time, she has empathy for the poor. She has promised to make TN the number one state. Hence I want to offer my gratitude to her this way,’’ he says. As of now, a two-feet-cement idol of the Chief Minister, bedecked in a silk saree, has been installed in his puja room.
Before he is allotted land for the temple, Durai would like to have the small idol put up somewhere for public worship. After the Secretariat rejecting permission, he is now seeking the help of AIADMK HQ to set it up at a convenient location.
