AHMEDNAGAR, Nov 6: Ahmednagar Municipal Council (AMC) has expressed its inability to take over the city's water supply scheme. The council will soon submit a letter in this connection to the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran (MJP) which at present is supplying water to the city.Most of the cities in the State get water supply from the Pradhikaran. However, recently, the State Government had issued an order, asking the respective civic bodies to take over the water scheme. Recently, the pradhikaran too, had issued a letter to AMC. V. Rangnathan, chief secretary, water supply department, who was here on Wednesday also directed the AMC to take over the water supply. He has instructed that even if the civic body was unwilling to take over the scheme, the bills for water and power supply should be sent directly to the municipal council.An AMC delegation called on N.S. Pharande, chairman of the state legislative council, on Wednesday to express the AMC's inability to take over the water supply.The expenses for the water scheme is Rs 9.5 crore every year whereas the council earns only Rs 1.75 crore from water cess. The civic body will have to face a loss of Rs 7.75 crore every year if it is forced to take over the water scheme, they said.Meanwhile in Satara senior division civil judge P.T. Penurkar has ordered status quo in the case of handing over the Maharashtra Jeevan Pradhikaran's camp water supply scheme to Satara Municipal Council till November 9.Meanwhile, municipal council president Ashok Mone has expressed the council's willingness to take over the water scheme for the areas in city limits.
