
MUMBAI, JULY 26: Five players share the lead at the end of the second round of play-off league in the Entrant’s Division Chess tournament organised by the Bombay Chess Association at the Zhandu Pharmaceutical Works Canteen today.
Harshvardhan Ambedkar of Pendharkar College, Mugdha Variyar (Gokuldham School), Milind Ketkar (Pune Vidya Bhavan, Ghatkopar), Aditya Vora (Don Bosco, Matunga) and Arun Subramaniam are on top with two points each.
Top seed Manoj Tawade lost to Ambedkar in 39 moves. He handled the black side of the Dragon Variation in a closed Sicilian Defence and lost one pawn and exchange on 32nd move. When white queen and rook threatened to land in black’s territory in front of a broken castle, Tawade resigned on the 39th move.

Terwadkar stuns Saxena
Parag Terwadkar of New Bombay High School shocked former Maharashtra No 2 Vaibhav Saxena of Fr Agnel (Vashi) in the Inter-school chess tournament organised by the Indian Council of Chess Studies at Daate Mangal Karyalaya, Dombivli.
Sagar Masurekar (Fr Agnel) beat S Srinivas (Model English) in a Sicilian game. He blundered a pawn on the 20th move and lost in 32 moves. Vinaykumar (Abhinav) suffered a setback against Yogesh Athale (Adarsh English).
In Group A (KG-standard 4), Nitesh Bhat (Manjunath), Nimidev (Atomic Energy), Anish Menon (Model), Meghan Gupte (South Indian), Salim Ali and Utkarsh Gupta (bot Fr Agnel) lead the table with three points. Rohil Bhat, Yogesh Athale, Vrushali and Vaishali Kulkarni (both S K Patil) lead in Group B with three points. Terwadkar, Sagar Sadavarte (both New Bombay) and Sagar Masurekar (Fr Agnel) are joint leaders in Group C with three each.
