The Samajwadi Party termed as “unnecessary harassment”, the manner in which a fine for encroachment was slapped on party general secretary Amar Singh.

“The way in which the notice was pasted outside Singh’s residence at Surya Nagar in Ghaziabad by its municipal corporation asking him to pay Rs 8 lakh fine for encroachment shows Uttar Pradesh state government is working only to harass SP partymen,” its state president Shivpal Singh Yadav said.

He alleged that the BSP government had already conspired against party MP Jaya Bachchan to ensure her disqualification from the Rajya Sabha and lodged 12,000 FIRs against SP workers since it came to power.
