KARACHI, March 3: The chairman of the Pakistan cricket selectors, Salim Altaf, resigned today in protest at the inclusion of controversial pace bowler Wasim Akram in the squad touring South Africa.Former pace bowler Altaf told reporters that Akram had been invited to join the team in South Africa in contravention of the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) constitution. He accused the chairman of the PCB, Khalid Mahmood, of acting unilaterally in inviting Akram to South Africa."It was the job of the selectors to pick or drop the player (Akram). The chairman of the cricket board ( Mahmood) has violated the constitution which has forced me to take such an extreme step," Altaf said. The other two selectors, Zaheer Abbas and Shafiq Ahmad, were expected to tender their resignations tomorrow, sources close to selectors said.
