Fernando Alonso set the pace in the second practice session for the French Grand Prix on Friday, edging Ferrari duo Felipe Massa and Kimi Raikkonen.Alonso clocked 1 minute, 15.778 seconds around the Circuit de Nevers to give the French team a confidence boost as it seeks a first win of the season. Massa, who was fastest in the morning practice, was second in 1:15.854, while Raikkonen was third in 1:15.999.McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton was fourth in the unusually close session, where 12 riders were within a second of Alonso’s time. BMW Sauber driver Robert Kubica, coming off his first F1 victory at the Canadian GP, was in sixth place behind Toro Rosso’s Sebastian Vettel.Practice continues Saturday morning, before qualifying on Saturday afternoon for Sunday’s race. Kubica holds a four-point advantage over Hamilton and Massa in the overall standings.
