CHANDIGARH, MAY 18: The ruling Akali Dal has launched the membership enrollment drive with immediate effect to be completed by July 20. The drive is the first phase of the formal election of the president after constituting the general house.

The Akali Dal faction led by expelled leader and former Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee chief has taken up the issue of the election of the president. The two-year term of Parkash Singh Badal as the party president ended in February. The last meeting of the general house to elect the president was held after many years.

According to party secretary Kirpal Singh Badungar, one circle delegate is elected after every 100 primary members and one district general house delegate after every 25 circle delegates. The district general house delegates elect the general house for the election of the president.
