Ajmal Ameer Kasab, the lone 26/11 terrorist caught alive, has written to the Pakistan High Commission in New Delhi seeking consular access and legal assistance for himself and for claiming the body of his slain partner Ismail Khan alias Abu Ismail. The Mumbai Police Crime Branch, the investigating agency in the attacks, has sent the letter to the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi.“On December 11, Kasab wrote a letter to the Pakistan High Commission in which he says he is a Pakistani and belongs to the Lashkar-e-Toiba. He has written details of his training and mission and even mentioned the names of several trainers and handlers,” said Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) Rakesh Maria. “Kasab has asked for consular access since he is a Pakistani citizen and that legal assistance be provided to him. We despatched this letter the same day to the MEA and MHA for further action.”“We have also written to Centre requesting that Pakistan claim the bodies of the other eight victims as they are Pak citizens too,” said Maria. Pak newspaper Dawn quoted the father as accepting that Ajmal was his son. Pak officials yesterday said there was no question of seeking access since India had given no “evidence” of his Pak nationality. Meanwhile, the Crime Branch received a report from the Kalina Forensic Sciences Laboratory that the explosives used in the Vile Parle taxi were RDX and petroleum oil. “We also recovered some petroleum oil from Kuber,” said Maria.
