Mounting his pitch and taking the battle of attrition right into his mentor’s backyard here, Rashtriya Lok Dal rebel MLA Samarpal Singh today accused Ajit Singh of foiling the creation of Harit Pradesh.Addressing a well-attended farmers rally in Ajit’s fiefdom here today in support of separate Harit Pradesh state, Samarpal rued that it was a betrayal of the farmers and people of west UP who had supported Ajit and other Lok Dal MLAs on this poll plank. He asked the public to teach a lesson to such politicians ‘‘jo Lucknow aur Dilli jaakar public se kiye apney vaadey bhool jaaten hain (who forget their promises to the voters after reaching Lucknow and Delhi’’. The Lok Dal MLA from Barnawa, however, swore that he was still with Ajit and the party. But the glaring absence of pictures of Ajit from the posters for the much touted Harit Pradesh rally told another tale.Samarpal continues to give pin pricks to his mentor. He is virtually trying to hijack the separate statehood movement from his mentor _ holding meetings all over west UP openly accusing Ajit of sabotaging the Harit Pradesh cause. ‘‘It was Ajit Singh who backed out at the last moment when the resolution was to be put to vote in the Assembly in September last year,’’ Samarpal told farmers. He said he had moved the resolution in the House at the instance of Ajit but after seven hours of debate, he backed out.
