NEW DELHI, September 29: As expected, Ajay Sharma was unanimously named to lead Delhi in this year’s Ranji Trophy championships. The DDCA senior selection committee also named a list of 45 probables who have been asked to report to coach Maninder Singh Jaggi at 2 pm on October at the Kotla ground.

Chairman-cum-convenor Sunil Dev, while releasing the probables’ list, said names of some under-19 players were discussed for the Ranji squad but the selectors felt the juniors should concentrate on their age group tournament in view of the forthcoming World Cup (u-19). “In case of any outstanding performance, u-19 players can be considered.”

The selection committee meeting was attended by Madan Lal, Sunil Khanna, Sheel Mehra and M S Jaggi. Surender Khanna cold not attend due to a bereavement in the family.

In their opening fixture, Delhi will take on the Services at Harbaksh Stadium from October 24 which will be preceded by a one-day match between the two teams on October 23.
