With Kanpur formally expressing its inability to host the third Test between India and Sri Lanka, Ahmedabad will be the venue for the match starting December 18.

The tours and fixtures committee had decided on Saturday that Ahmedabad would be the new venue in case Kanpur opts out of the race. The Uttar Pradesh Cricket Association (UPCA), which hosts matches in Kanpur, and the municipal authorities, who own the Green Park ground, are currently involved in a dispute and therefore the match has been shifted.

In the current scenario, the India-England Test which was earlier scheduled to be played at Ahmedabad has now been moved to Mohali while the ODI that was supposed to be held in Mohali has been allotted to Jamshedpur.

Meanwhile, the Asia Cup scheduled to be held in Pakistan from February 16-28, has been called off. Keeping in mind a very packed schedule, the BCCI requested the PCB to postpone the tournament and hold it later at a ‘‘mutually convenient’’ date.

“Players felt they needed some rest because of the back-to-back itinerary,” BCCI executive secretary Ratnakar Shetty said. Indian board officials said the government would decide whether the team could play a Test in the volatile Pakistan city of Karachi.

Teams have been reluctant to travel to Karachi over security concerns after several bomb blasts in the past few years. The city has staged only two tests in the past five years.
