June 13: The Association of Hotels and Restaurants (AHAR) has alleged that some “middlemen” in the open market are making money by charging 20 per cent premium while issuing coins. In a press release, general secretary Prabhakar Shetty has said that the problem started last month.

He alleges that most of the public sector banks have failed to provide coins though the Reserve Bank has made special arrangements to maintain stocks.

The release added some agents in the open market managed to get stock of coins.
