With Lok Sabha elections drawing closer, the BJP and AGP have already agreed to put up a combined fight against the ruling Congress."We have already agreed to seat-sharing with the BJP, and waiting for a final agreement in this regard between the two sides," Padma Hazarika, AGP general secretary said here on Friday.Hazarika said it was only on Thursday that AGP president Chandra Mohan Patowari had discussions with senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj at Kolkata, during which they talked about drawing up a fool-proof strategy to defeat the Congress and its allies in Assam.Confirming this, BJP state unit president Ramen Deka said leaders of the two sides would meet soon to work out in detail about which party should take which constituency in the ensuing elections. "The total votes polled by the AGP and BJP in the 2004 elections put together makes it amply clear that the Congress has no chance of winning more than two seats in Assam," Deka said.He said both sides were already preparing details of the winnability of the probable candidates on both sides. The AGP and BJP had won two seats each in the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, with nine going to the Congress. The Kokrajhar (ST) seat had gone to an independent who is currently with the Bodo People's Front (BPF), an ally of the Congress. Assam has 14 seats in Lok Sabha. Meanwhile, the AGP has already announced its decision to renominate Sarbananda Sonowal and Arun Kumar Sharma from the Dibrugarh and Lakhimpur constituencies. "We have already renominated both our sitting MPs, and the BJP has no problem with that," said AGP general secretary Padma Hazarika. The regional party meanwhile has received an invitation to join the NDA led by the BJP at the national level. "The NDA has sent us an invitation (to join it), but we are yet to take a final decision," said Apurba Bhattacharyya, a spokesman of the AGP.
