8226; MUMBAI: Medical associations here on Sunday rejected the proposal of the Group of Ministers to increase seats along with introduction of reservations. IMA, Mumbai branch held a joint meeting of medical organisations in which last week8217;s lathi-charge on medical students was condemned. Held at Bombay Hospital, the meeting was attended by over thousand people who later took out a protest march. Representatives of Association of Medical Consultants, General Practioners8217; Assoiciation, Urological Society International, Indian Psychiatric Association, Association of Physiotherapy among others participated.

8226; LUCKNOW: UP government invoked the Essential Services Maintenance Act ESMA against doctors opposed to reservations and declared their strike illegal. The services of Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences SGPGIMS doctors, who do not return to their duties within 24 hours would be terminated and legal action taken against them, UP Chief Secretary Navin Chandra Bajpai said. The medicos, however, said they would not work in OPDs in protest against the lathicharge on colleagues in Mumbai. Students of KGMU have decided not to go on strike.

8226; PATNA: The pro-quota medicos continued with their agitation paralysing functioning of major hospitals in Bihar for the third day in protest against the lathicharge on them on Friday, even as superintendent of Patna Medical College and Hospital Anil Kumar Pandey resigned from his post after students blamed him for the police action. The medicos continued their dharna at the entrance to the PMCH emergency ward blocking the way of patients and doctors.
