The second incident violating the ban on rallies, imposed by Calcutta High Court on September 29, was today led by Left Front chairman Biman Bose, the man who spearheaded the Left Front tirade against Justice Amitava Lala’s order.
Just yesterday, the CPI(ML) staged the first case of violation of the ban imposed by the high court. Biman Bose led a procession of the People’s Relief Committee, a CPI(M) outfit, that passed several busy streets of Kolkata and converged into a rally at Moulali Yuba Kendra.
Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharya was among a host of speakers who addressed the rally. It was Biman Bose who launched a blistering attack against Justice Lala, saying he was ‘unwanted’ in Calcutta and his track record was dubious. And just as they said that they did not stop the Naxalite rally because they had not received a copy of the order, police also offered the same plea today. ‘‘We have not received any copy of the order so we cannot take any action,” an officer said.
