Patna, July 25: The Bihar Government has constituted a special cell to investigate and deal with fake currency notes circulated in some parts of the state by Pakistan's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).Senior administrative and police officers have been alerted.Official sources said here today that a special cell to investigate the matter has been constituted to take steps to deal with the situation and to educate the common people on how to detect the fake notes.Sources said the ISI's intention was essentially to discredit the banks and post offices, and affect the economic environment in the country. Reports of fake notes exchanging hands, had also been received from several areas of the state bordering with Nepal, sources said.State Home Commissioner U N Panjiar had also instructed the vigilance department to closely monitor the incidents of recovery of the fake currency. He has also written a letter to state director general of police K A Jacob about the circulation of fake currency noteswhich were finding their way into the country from Nepal and other neighbouring countries.He said that steps should be made to find the spots from where these fake currency notes were finding their way into the country.Sources said the first case of the circulation of fake currency notes came to light in March this year. The ISI was trying to mingle the fake currency notes with the original ones when the banking transaction reached its peak as March was the last month of the financial year, sources said.Some fake notes of Rs 100 were recovered at Muzaffarpur branch of UCO Bank. The fake notes were part of the amount deposited by a businessmen in the bank, sources added.Likewise, fake notes in the denomination of Rs 500 were recovered at Munger and one more such case was reported in the state capital recently.The state government has decided to open 15 new police stations on the Indo-Nepal bordering areas to keep a close watch on the activities of the ISI from August 15.
